Job Advertisement: Employee for Action Program for Endangered Species

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency coordinates and drives the work for a good living environment together with others. With us, you can contribute to the important work of achieving our vision - to create a good living environment for humans and all other living beings, now and for future generations!

We are looking for a proactive employee who, together with other colleagues at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, wants to develop the work with the Action Program for Endangered Species (ÅGP). Are you our driving force who wants to contribute to the renewal and harmonization of the work within the Nature Restoration Regulation (NRF)? We are in an exciting transition period where it is important to integrate the ÅGP work with the new requirements of the NRF. We need you, just like us, to see the opportunities in this transition.

The Species Unit at the Department of Nature and Wildlife works with the conservation of biodiversity from many perspectives on species conservation, through regulatory application, guidance, policy development, collaboration, and initiation of measures. The unit's tasks include species protection, regulation of trade in endangered species (CITES), management of invasive alien species (IAS), implementation of the Nagoya Protocol, as well as testing of nematodes, insects, and arachnids as pesticides (NIS), as well as issues concerning wild pollinators and Action Programs for endangered species and habitats (ÅGP).

Your Responsibilities

You will work on reviewing and evaluating the action programs, making priorities, strategic considerations, and further developing the work with the action programs within the new framework provided by the NRF. Other work related to the ÅGP activities may also occur, such as support for wetland grants for protected areas and ÅGP.

An important part of the work is to collaborate with other authorities such as sector authorities and universities, as well as non-profit organizations, businesses, and private actors, and to guide the county administrative boards.

Your job will also include administering, following up, and reporting both the work itself and the results and financial contributions of the county administrative boards, including reporting back to and collaborating with the Government Offices.

Your Qualifications

We require a master's degree or equivalent in biology or ecology, preferably with a focus on conservation/species protection. You have a broad basic knowledge of species and knowledge of their habitats. You have knowledge of or experience working with the EU's Nature Restoration Regulation. You also have several years of experience working in a government agency and several years of experience in species conservation.

Documented education (if not included in your degree) in conservation biology or related fields and training in communication and/or collaboration is advantageous. Experience and competence in other areas of the Species Unit and the Nature and Wildlife Department, such as invasive alien species, rural development program support, wetland initiatives, national support for grasslands, or LIFE projects is a plus.

It is also advantageous if you have documented experience in project management and in driving complex processes. Experience with ÅGP work is a plus, as well as knowledge of how other societal actors can contribute to the work of conserving species and natural environments and what policy instruments exist.

Personal Attributes

We place great importance on personal attributes where we see that you are a proactive person who drives the work forward in a strategic and wise manner, based on an analysis of needs and opportunities. You actively collaborate with both external and internal partners. We at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency are flexible, and it is expected that you contribute to the unit's, department's, and the entire agency's mission.

About the Employment

The position is a permanent full-time employment that begins with a six-month probationary period. The position is located in Stockholm or Östersund. Start date as soon as possible according to agreement. We apply individual salary setting.

Application

When you apply, you will need to answer a number of selection questions related to the requirements profile in the advertisement. Your answers will be used in the selection process and can determine whether you proceed in the recruitment process. Therefore, it is important that you respond thoroughly and clearly. We do not use personal letters in the selection but focus on your experience and competence for a more effective and fair recruitment process. In your application, you only attach your CV.

Warmly welcome your application by February 9, 2026.
